Review before mutation

See the source, destination, and proposed change together

Catalog sync becomes risky when it copies every populated field without explaining which system should own it. Tally Connect creates review rows that compare the source snapshot, current destination evidence, and proposed values before approval.

The same pattern supports Shopify-to-Tally and Tally-to-Shopify work while keeping each direction explicit.

  • Variant and Stock Item identities displayed together.
  • Proposed create, update, keep, or archive behavior shown before approval.
  • Bounded bulk actions for rows the merchant has reviewed.
  • Failures stay attached to the exact review row.
02

Field ownership

Choose which system may change each field

Shopify is often the better owner for storefront titles and descriptions, while TallyPrime may own HSN, GST applicability, Stock Group, and base unit. The correct split depends on the merchant's operating model.

Tally Connect makes ownership a setting and keeps unsupported Tally targets from appearing as portable fields.

  • Explicit ownership for supported identity and accounting fields.
  • Unit ratios validated before order or inventory quantities use them.
  • No automatic publishing of a new Shopify product from Tally.
  • Lifecycle behavior chosen instead of destructive mirroring.
03

Catalog discovery

Scan large Tally catalogs as recoverable background work

A Tally catalog scan can outlive a single page request. The Agent and cloud process discovery in bounded work with visible progress, cancellation, and recovery state.

Results are materialized for review so searching and paging do not repeatedly execute the original Tally read.

  • Progress and last-success evidence visible in the app.
  • Duplicate-safe remapping to an existing unique Shopify SKU.
  • Draft creation for reviewed Tally-only products.
  • Fresh scans required after important source catalog changes.

Before go-live

Tests worth running with your real workflow.

A connector should be evaluated by its difficult cases, not by whether one ideal record moved successfully.

  1. 01

Review a small sample containing simple, missing-SKU, and intentionally mismatched products.

  2. 02

Confirm field ownership with merchandising and accounting stakeholders.

  3. 03

Test unit conversions used by orders and inventory.

  4. 04

Verify a Tally-only item creates a Shopify draft rather than a published product.

  5. 05

Practice scan cancellation and recovery before expanding to the full catalog.

Practical questions

What teams ask before enabling this workflow.

Product-sync documentation
Does Tally Connect publish new Shopify products automatically?+

No. A reviewed Tally-only Stock Item can create a tracked Shopify draft; publishing remains a merchant decision.

Can Shopify create or update Tally Stock Items?+

The supported Shopify-to-Tally workflow creates review rows and requires approval before a Stock Item mutation.

How are existing products matched?+

Confirmed mappings are preferred. A remap can adopt one exact, unique Shopify SKU; ambiguous matches are refused.
